In any organisation there emerge, from time to time, individuals who become almost an institution. That Vic Cox is an institution in HRGB is not stated lightly. In the North East Region of HRGB his contribution has been significant dating from the formation of the region to the present time.
Vic has held a number of positions within the region -
He became Regional Secretary from 1980 to 1982

This was followed by a period as Regional Chairman from 1982 to 1986
Vic continued to play an active part in the Region as a Committee Member from 1986 to 1993

Whilst undertaking these roles he represented the Region on the National Executive Committee from 1979 to 1992.

It was while Vic was Secretary of the Region that he had the vision to take the lead when the Committee was asked if they would organise the first National Residential Weekend Rally for HRGB.  Held at Ranmoor College – part of Sheffield University – the programme of events for the weekend was pure Vic.  An innovative event for HRGB in 1981 and one which set the seal on the many other similar events now so very much part of the HRGB calendar

However, it is perhaps, as a musician, and, in particular, the Musical Director of Dronfield Handbell Ringers that Vic is so well known and respected.  His musical arrangements for handbells, now promoted through the “Dronfield Collection” are played throughout the UK and are renowned for their “challenging approach”

Vic shows great generosity of spirit to all ringers and has always been willing to provide pieces for use at North East Region Rallies for which the Officers and Committee are most grateful.  He is also a member of the Northern Bell Orchestra for which he has also provided several new arrangements.

Nationally, Vic has, whenever possible, supported national rallies, providing music, running workshops and performing with the Dronfield Handbell Ringers in their very special style of handbell ringing – they are the envy of many.

The Officers and Committee are delighted that Vic has accepted Honoured Membership of the North East Region and take this opportunity to thank him for the support advice and friendship he has given to so many ringers over the years
